Exploring the Health Promotion Behavior of Middle Class Older Women in Metropolitan Area

Abstract
Purpose: This study aimed to explore the subjective experiences of health promotion behavior among elderly women in the middle class in metropolitan area.

Methods: Phenomenological methodology was used for the study. Participants were six elderly women enrolled at singing class at a culture center. Data were collected via in-depth interviews from January to April, 2012 and analyzed using Colaizzi"s framework.

Results: Five theme clusters and nineteen themes were identified for the health promotion behavior experiences of middle class elderly women. Five theme clusters were ¡®self-reflection¡¯, ¡®thanks to everything", ¡®enjoyment of life through relationship", ¡®active healthy living practices", and ¡®pursuit of senior independent living".

Conclusion: The finding of this study propose a new strategic approach to develop health improvement programs specialized for the healthy middle class elderly women.
